Rivian R2 in 2026: Prices, Range and Buying Timeline

Choose R2 Performance if you want an available R2 and will use its added power and suspension. Wait for Premium if you prefer its lower price and can keep your current transport until delivery. Rivian lists Performance as available now, Premium for late 2026, and Standard configurations for 2027.

Compare the delivered price and timing with the cost of keeping your current vehicle. Prices and availability checked November 3, 2026.

What is available and what is planned

Rivian’s March trim announcement confirms $48,490 for Standard RWD Long Range with up to 345 miles of manufacturer-estimated range. At those starting prices, Premium AWD is $5,500 more. Compare that drivetrain and equipment difference with your need for all-wheel drive, then include fees in the order total. Current lineup.

Rivian’s pages do not currently give a consistent window for the least expensive Standard: the configurator says summer 2027, while the homepage’s disclosure says late 2027. Treat 2027 as a planning horizon rather than a guaranteed summer handover, and use the written estimate attached to your order. Rivian availability disclosure.

The Performance premium buys specific equipment

Rivian’s March announcement identifies Performance as a dual-motor AWD vehicle with 656 horsepower and a manufacturer-quoted 3.6-second 0–60 mph time. Premium is also dual-motor AWD but is rated at 450 horsepower. The current lineup lists Premium’s acceleration at 4.6 seconds. Rivian trim announcement.

Performance adds semi-active suspension. Both it and Premium include heated and ventilated front seats, premium audio, and rear drop glass. Premium saves $4,000 at the listed starting prices while retaining dual-motor AWD and the 330-mile range estimate.

Choose between the listed single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD configurations, then book a demo drive. Try the suspension settings, seat position, visibility, and everyday controls on roads similar to your usual drive.

Understand the invitation and delivery process

Rivian announced June 9, 2026 for the start of order invitations, initial customer deliveries and demo drives. Its launch instructions identify reservation time and delivery location as primary invitation factors, with proximity to service and demo centers affecting the initial rollout. Rivian’s August ownership guide identifies Normal, Illinois production and says most customers take delivery four to eight weeks after confirming a build. Track the build-confirmation date separately from the reservation date, and use the estimate in your account for personal planning. Ownership process.

Record reservation, invitation, build confirmation, and delivery as separate milestones. If your current lease ends on a fixed date, price a transport backup until the delivery appointment is confirmed.

Charging: native NACS, with conditions on the headline time

R2 has a native NACS port. Rivian quotes 10–80% charging in under 30 minutes under suitable DC conditions, and separately advertises up to 150 miles added in 15 minutes. Use the interval relevant to the charge you need and the equipment on your route. Charging specifications.

Check Tesla’s planner for R2-compatible locations among Tesla-only, Magic Dock, and supported NACS sites. For CCS equipment, confirm the supported adapter before departure. Tesla access guidance.

Rivian’s ownership guide describes up to 38 miles of range per hour with its wall charger, subject to installation and charging conditions. Have an electrician evaluate the intended parking location and obtain the equipment-plus-installation cost before comparing it with public charging.

At Rivian’s stated maximum of 38 miles added per hour, replacing a 45-mile day takes about 71 minutes. Confirm the installation’s output and allow a longer window when conditions or equipment reduce the charging rate.

Check physical fit and the towing configuration

Rivian lists 185.9 inches of length and 90.1 cubic feet of total enclosed storage. Measure parking clearance for doors and charging access, then check the specific cargo area with every seat you need in use. Ownership guide, launch specifications.

Take the stroller, luggage or mobility equipment that decides whether the vehicle fits your life. Check passenger space with the front seats positioned for the actual drivers.

The Performance Launch Package includes the tow package, and Rivian describes 4,400 pounds of towing capacity for that arrangement. Do not apply it automatically to every future Standard drivetrain. The current base Standard listing gives 3,500 pounds. Confirm the actual configuration, hitch requirements and loading limits before buying for a trailer. Driver assistance remains supervised

Rivian lists 10 HDR cameras and five radars for its assistance hardware. Its operating instructions state that Universal Hands-Free does not stop or slow for traffic lights or stop signs; keep watching the road and be ready to take control. Autonomy features and limits.

Autonomy+ is listed at $49.99 per month or a $2,500 one-time purchase, with applicable eligibility and terms. Twelve monthly payments total $599.88. Do not add that cost twice when comparing an offer that already includes the service.

The Launch Package includes Autonomy+ for the lifetime of feature support on the hardware present at delivery, and the upgrade stays with the vehicle after transfer. Check the included service in the order before adding a subscription to the budget. Launch Package terms.

Decide whether waiting actually helps your budget

Performance starts $13,000 above the announced $44,990 Standard base price, but those versions differ in drivetrain, battery and equipment. A fair comparison includes those differences and the cost of keeping your current car.

Price the waiting period using repairs, financing interest or lease costs, insurance, and expected depreciation of your current car. Separately record the cash needed for payments and a possible temporary vehicle. Compare that budget with the $4,000 Performance-to-Premium price gap, or the $13,000 gap to base Standard, while accounting for the equipment differences.

Use the final order summary for destination and other fees. Do not subtract a federal clean-vehicle credit from a newly acquired R2 in November 2026: the IRS ended eligibility for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. IRS credit rules.

Buy the available Performance only if its actual price, equipment and delivery arrangement work for you. Waiting can be reasonable when a future Standard or Premium matches your needs better and your existing transport remains workable. Compare alternatives using the EV buyer’s guide and obtain insurance and charging quotes before confirming the order.
