Ford’s 2026 order guide identifies 73 kWh usable capacity for the standard-range battery and 88 kWh for the extended-range battery in Select and Premium configurations. The GT uses a different 91-kWh extended-range battery. Do not apply one capacity to the whole lineup. Ford 2026 order guide.
The Model Y’s published RWD range exceeds the extended-range Mach-E’s by 37 miles; the AWD difference is 27 miles. Check the exact rating on the window sticker and leave additional margin for cold, speed, and load. The EPA lists these Tesla configurations as Long Range RWD/AWD. EPA comparison
For a 220-mile trip, use each vehicle’s route planner with your intended departure charge. Save a compatible stop before the predicted arrival charge becomes uncomfortable, plus an alternative if the first site is unavailable.
The 2026 Mach-E still needs an adapter for NACS DC charging
Ford’s 2026 order guide specifies an SAE J1772/CCS combination port. The NACS fast-charging adapter is optional, according to its model-year changes notice. Include the approved adapter in your quote if you plan to use compatible Superchargers. Ford 2026 changes.
Match the accessory to the charging use: a DC fast-charging adapter is not automatically suitable for an AC destination charger. Check both kinds of stop if your travel includes hotels as well as highway charging.
Ford’s public 2026 Premium vehicle listing specifies up to 150-kW DC charging capability. Tesla lists 250 kW maximum for Model Y Premium. Neither peak is a charging rate sustained throughout an entire session. Ford 2026 Premium equipment listing, Tesla specifications.
Use planned stop duration alongside the peak-power figure. Check the manufacturer’s charging interval for the battery, the route’s available equipment, and preconditioning instructions. Choose a stop with food or rest facilities when charging overlaps a break you need anyway.
Check home charging and the route network
Use Tesla’s map to identify sites that serve the Ford as well as the Tesla, including supported NACS and Magic Dock locations. Save alternatives along the route. Tesla network access.
The Ford specification lists an 11-kW AC onboard charger. Have an electrician quote equipment and a circuit that fit the parking space, then use the lower of the supply and vehicle limits to plan charging time.
At the EPA’s rounded 30.7 kWh/100-mile rating for the extended-range Mach-E RWD, a 40-mile day corresponds to about 12.3 kWh purchased, including charging losses. A steady 7.2-kW supply would provide that in about 1.7 hours. This helps size an overnight charging window when two cars share the equipment. EPA Mach-E rating
BlueCruise availability is a purchase-time decision
The 2026 Mach-E order guide makes the Technology Package optional on Select and Premium. It includes BlueCruise equipment and an initial one-year-plus-90-day plan. The guide states that without the specified option, the vehicle will not be capable of BlueCruise. Do not assume buying a subscription later can add missing hardware.
Ford’s BlueCruise support page lists $49.99 monthly or $495 annually for eligible equipped vehicles, with pricing subject to change. Twelve monthly payments total $599.88, which is $104.88 more than the annual plan. Ford also describes a one-time purchase option with its own terms. Ford BlueCruise pricing.
BlueCruise supports hands-free operation on compatible Blue Zone highways while the driver remains attentive. Tesla’s FSD (Supervised) is also a driver-assistance product requiring active supervision; its published subscription is $99 per month, or $1,188 for twelve months before applicable tax. It does not make the vehicle autonomous. Tesla subscription terms.
Before ordering, confirm installed assistance hardware, included trial length, renewal price, and the roads where the feature operates. Price the service for the months you expect to use it.
Distinguish performance upgrades from standard GT equipment
Ford lists the Mach-E GT at 480 horsepower and 600 lb-ft, with its available Performance Upgrade raising torque to 700 lb-ft. Ford quotes 3.8 seconds to 60 mph for GT and 3.3 seconds with that upgrade. MagneRide is also equipment to verify on the particular configuration, rather than assuming every GT includes every handling option. Ford GT specifications.
Choose the GT upgrade for performance you expect to use. For a daily commuter, compare seats, visibility, braking feel, and low-speed maneuvering before paying for the quicker acceleration package.
The standard Mach-E cabin has a 10.2-inch instrument display and 15.5-inch center screen, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Try the phone integration and common controls while parked. Bring the child seats, stroller or other cargo that determine whether the vehicle fits your household.
Compare the complete quote and ownership budget
Ford’s model page advertises Select starting MSRP at $37,795 and Premium at $40,595 when checked. These are starting figures: an extended-range battery, packages, paint and the final fees change the transaction. Compare the Ford dealer’s complete quote with Tesla’s configured cash order total, including delivery/order charges and taxes where applicable.
Do not subtract a new federal clean-vehicle purchase credit. The IRS says the relevant vehicle credits are unavailable for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. A dealer or manufacturer promotion is a separate item. IRS credit rules.
Request insurance quotes for the actual VINs. Ask your local service provider about EV appointments, repair capabilities, and transportation during service, then include those arrangements in the ownership comparison.
Using rounded EPA consumption of 30.7 kWh/100 miles for Mach-E extended-range RWD and 25.2 for Model Y Long Range RWD, a 12,000-mile year requires 3,684 kWh and 3,024 kWh. At a price input of $0.22/kWh, that costs $810.48 versus $665.28—a $145.20 annual difference. Replace the electricity price with your expected charging mix. EPA vehicle comparison
For range and energy cost, choose the Model Y in this rear-drive pairing. Choose the Mach-E when its controls, phone integration, equipped BlueCruise, or dealer quote are worth more to you than the range difference and roughly $145 annual energy saving in the example. The Ioniq 5 comparison adds another cabin and charging option.
